Samantha Parkin - Clinical Manager/Deputy CEO
After completing my registered nurse training and degree in Health Care Studies, I started working with complementary therapies within palliative care. I qualified as an aromatherapist, a reflexologist and reiki practitioner, as well as completing a variety of other courses, including communication and counselling skills. My interest stemmed from a desire to enhance my patient’s quality of life. Using the techniques to help clients learn how to relax and to develop strategies to help them cope and find a “new normality” following a cancer diagnosis. I took over as Clinical Manager at Beechwood in 2000, which has involved a change of focus from working with clients to supporting and developing team members. Also looking to the future and deciding Beechwood’s priorities and developing strategies to meet these, maintaining the great services we have, as well as expanding into new areas. Since taking the lead, I have been involved in developing a number of the services we now provide, including; Family Therapy, Bereavement Support and the Macmillan Information and Support Service. I have also initiated some smaller projects such as the partnership with Headstrong and more recently a collaboration with Arc to deliver art taster sessions to clients at the Centre.
