Butterfly Appeal
|
Launched in conjunction with the Stockport Express The Butterfly Appeal was launched as a major campaign to help a raise funds for our family therapy unit.
Initially set up to create a family counseling centre at Beechwood’s Bridgehall base, where its therapist currently works out of one cramped room it will now continue to provide funding for the service
"The unit is there to help answer the painful questions that no parent ever wishes to have to deal with.
"Our therapist is there to help them through that very difficult time. We give both children and parents the chance to talk about it."
For hundreds of people affected by cancer, Beechwood is the comfort blanket that calms them.

But for children, this support can be especially crucial.
They often struggle to talk about how their mum or dad’s illness has hit them, while adults sometimes can’t find the words.
|
This is where family therapist Claire Stableford steps in.
"Claire is absolutely fantastic and kids just love her," said Angela.
"She helps open communications again. With each visit, you can see the children’s confidence coming back. They become more and more positive."
And where a child has to deal with the ultimate tragedy – the death of a parent – Beechwood is on hand.
Angela adds: "Sadly, not everybody does make it. When that happens we also help children with bereavement.
"Often everybody stops talking to everybody else because they don’t want to upset each other.

"But this money can build a devoted centre where families can face the elephant in the room – and can start to move on."
Although we have now met our target we are continuing with the appeal as Claire always needs funding for equipment, courses and family days. We also need to fund the service.
If you would like to donate to the appeal please mark your cheque Butterfly Appeal or contact the fundraising team for more information.
