About the Beechwood Legal Panel
A diagnosis of cancer can impact on all aspects of a cancer sufferer’s life and also on their friends and family. This can create further stress and anxiety at a time that is already emotionally exhausting.
Gorvins, TWP and Pannone understand this and have joined together to form the Beechwood Legal Panel to offer you a high quality of legal services appropriate for you and your family at this difficult time.
We are proud to support Beechwood Cancer Care and to provide you with a full range of legal services as part of the Beechwood approach to helping those who have been affected by cancer or any other life limiting illness.
We have experts in:-
Employment Law
Every cancer sufferer is automatically deemed to be a ‘disabled person’ for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010 and is therefore protected from suffering ‘less favourable treatment’ for reasons related to their disability unless it can be justified. Under the Equality Act 2010, employers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to working practices to accommodate disabled employees. Whilst many employers are supportive when an employee is diagnosed with cancer, we can help ensure that the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees alike are understood, protected and, where necessary, upheld. Family Law
The diagnosis of cancer can create a huge emotional impact which can have a dramatic effect on family life and can result in more emotional stress and anxiety. We understand the issues that can arise in cases such as this and can offer services dealing with matrimonial issues, family, property and businesses, which in many cases can be resolved through mediation, reducing some of the stress involved. Disability Rights and Access to Statutory Services
Having to cope with all the other tasks of everyday life after being diagnosed with cancer, can suddenly appear daunting and unmanageable. However, help could be easier to access than you may think and we can provide you with a wide range of assistance and information. Where people have been experiencing difficulties in accessing help and assistance, we can assist in approaching their Local Authority, as many offer a short term re-ablement service aimed at helping people get back on their feet and regain their independence after periods of illness. We can also assist in looking at the most suitable care and support to aid their recovery, whether on a short or long term basis. Back to Top

Clinical Negligence
Thankfully medical treatment in the United Kingdom is generally of a very high standard and medical accidents are rare. However, if you suffered a delay in diagnosing and treating your cancer or if it was initially misdiagnosed, we may be able to assist you in obtaining answers. We can help to ensure lessons are learned and obtain compensation for avoidable pain and suffering. Many patients seek not just compensation but an explanation as to why things have gone wrong, accountability and an apology. Many patients’ motivation in bringing the clinical negligence claim is to ensure that a doctor or hospital does not repeat its mistakes. Back to Top
Occupational and Industrial Cancers
If you develop an illness or condition which you believe was caused by work, it is important that you get medical advice immediately. If your doctor confirms that your illness is work related you need legal advice about possible compensation and entitlement to benefits. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer which is only known to be caused by asbestos dust. Lung Cancer is another form of cancer which in some cases can be caused by asbestos and other dusts. Bladder Cancer may result from exposure to certain chemicals at work. Nasal Cancer can be caused by heavy exposure to metal and wood dusts. If you have suffered/are suffering from any of the above, please contact us for legal advice. Back to Top
Wills, Trusts and Probate Advice and Power of Attorney
Making a Will is a positive step that can make things so much easier for your loved ones. Not only does a Will remove any doubt about how you wish your estate to be distributed but it also confirms who you wish to administer your affairs and who you wish to look after your children. These should, rightly, be your decisions. We can help to make the preparation of your Will a very straightforward process to give you and your family peace of mind. We can also help you to prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney to give a trusted family member or friend the ability to manage your affairs if you should not be well enough to do so. Back to Top
Mediation
Families and individuals often have to make very difficult decisions about safety, living arrangements, financial maters and end-of-life directives. At such times family members may experience mixed emotions, which can interfere with a person’s ability to think clearly and communicate effectively. This can result in misunderstandings, disagreements, and hurt. Some families divide and the unresolved conflict may become a legal battle, which can further complicate the problem. Mediation can offer a valuable opportunity to reach a solution without wasting resources, and without prolonging disputes. It empowers families to resolve their conflict. Why allow the courts to make the decision? Mediation allows everyone an opportunity to speak and be heard, to work through difficult decision-making, and to express one's feelings in a respectable manner. It can ultimately assist in establishing a resolution. Back to Top
