Community & Volunteering
Volunteers needed for our Heald Green, Woodley, Centre Shops & Distribution Centre.
We are proud that Beechwood are the recepient of the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. This is in recognition for volunteering work at Beechwood.
Volunteers are an essential part of Beechwood’s service. They bring something special and distinctive to Beechwood – a sense of community and fellowship plus a valuable mix of skills and experiences. Volunteering brings benefits to Beechwood, our patients and you. Whether you are looking to make new friends, to offer specialist skills, to improve your employment prospects or just to have fun, we can almost certainly find something for you.
Many volunteer roles require no experience. Your time, interest, enthusiasm, sense of humour, willingness to adapt and reliability are the most important requirements. Beechwood could not exist without its team of Volunteers.

Ambassadors
As an Ambassador, your voice is the most powerful tool you have of informing people who we are and what we do and encouraging others to become a part of our Volunteer Team. Some events may involve receiving a cheque on behalf of Beechwood and saying a few words about our services.
Fundraising Volunteers
We need people who care enough to give their time to help Beechwood continue its vital work.
This very active group meet regularly and organise and support numerous events. They help raise much needed funds for the centre as well as providing enjoyable social events. Listed below are a few of the events where we need your help.
- Bag Packing
- Fairs
- Santa Sleigh Collections
- Selling Raffle Tickets
Complementary Therapist
Are you a qualified Complementary Therapist in Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Reiki? As part of the Beechwood Programme our patients, carers and families are offered a Complementary Therapy.
Counselling
Our Volunteer Counsellors work with patients, carers, young family members and the bereaved. This is an invaluable service and gives our patients the space to talk and be heard.
Drivers
Many of our patients are unable to get to Beechwood, either because they do not have a car or because their illness makes public transport difficult. We have a team of drivers who use their own vehicles to transport patients to and from our Centre. A mileage allowance is paid and drivers should inform their insurers of their volunteer activities.
Office Support
Do you have office/admin skills? In typing, photocopying, mailing, filing, IT and with good communication skills? Would you be able to help at the Centre or outside in the Community putting up display stands, collection tins and leaflet distribution?
Patient Support Volunteers
Many of our Volunteers spend time at our Centre with the patients and undertake tasks such as making drinks, helping patients up and down the stairs or use the lift. They may simply sit with and talk to patients puttng them at ease - being a listening ear. Our Patient Support Volunteers also help at lunch time.
Retail Volunteers
Beechwood has three Charity Shops which rely heavily on Volunteers. There are many different tasks which include:
- Receiving and sorting donated goods
- Steaming
- Pricing
- Window displays, merchandising
- Serving customers
- General housekeeping
- They may occasionally be required to lift items and so must be reasonably fit
